As the Director of the NYS (AHEC) Area Health Education Center System, which is a federally and state funded health workforce training initiative, housed within the Department of Family Medicine at the University at Buffalo Research Foundation, Leishia is directly responsible for the overall management, governance, compliance and operational performance of this network throughout NYS. Since its inception in 1998, the NYS AHEC System is comprised of nine AHEC centers, three regional offices and the Statewide Office. Together, the NYSAHEC System implements community-based strategies that cultivate a more diverse health workforce, assuring that each community has enough practitioners in the right categories, particularly primary care, and overall improving access to quality health care for all New Yorkers. The New York State AHEC System focuses on strategies “to enhance access to quality health care and improve health care outcomes by addressing the health workforce needs of medically disadvantaged communities and populations through partnerships between institutions that train health professionals and communities that need them most.”

Educated in the SUNY system, Leishia holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Master’s in Public Administration both from Buffalo State College, giving her excellent foundational knowledge of both management and policies. With a strong background in workforce development and a long history in the non-profit human services arena that specifically addresses the gap in services and need for programming in the underserved and underrepresented areas throughout WNY, Leishia’s background encompasses over 20+ years in Executive Leadership and Management. Leishia’s previous work experience includes holding positions as the Operations Manager with Quest Diagnostics, where she was responsible for the daily operations of over 14 patient service centers directly in the low-income medically underserved areas throughout WNY; Director of Cultural Health Initiatives with the American Heart Association, raising education and awareness of heart disease and stroke in the minority community; Coordinator of Community Service with the Workforce Development Consortium, providing short-term hands on community service learning work experiences and pipeline programs targeting the adolescent populations in the underserved areas of WNY, to name a few.

Leishia has a sincere desire and passion for working in the human service arena, providing valuable programs and resources to an underserved population and since beginning her role in 2016 as the Director of the NYS AHEC System, she has implemented and strengthened sound fiscal, reporting and programmatic practices to support operational efficiency of the network, while significantly increased programs and services offered by AHEC truly embracing its mission!

As the Associate Director of Compliance with the NYS AHEC System, Andrevia serves as a senior executive member of the Statewide Program Office leadership team and directly oversees all compliance activities for the network, with a primary responsibility for ensuring programmatic and fiscal compliance adherence from the 9 AHEC centers and 2 Regional offices of the NYS AHEC System as required from our state and federal funders. Directly, she has developed and implemented processes and procedures to enhance the overall compliance structure of the NYS AHEC System to support operational efficiency and positive performance outcomes. Andrevia has a long history with NYS AHEC System Statewide Office, specifically serving as both the former Business Operations Manager and the Sr. Program Performance Manager working alongside leadership to bring structure, accountability, and integrity to the work we are charged to do. Andrevia brings the right mix of knowledge, leadership, management, and professional assertiveness needed to be effective as a direct change agent in seeking overall programmatic, contractual, and fiscal compliance for the NYS AHEC System as required by our regulated funding entities.

In her former role as the Research Manager with UBMD Pediatrics, she was responsible for the direct oversight of 70+ research grants, from implementation, set-up and closeout, pre & post award activities, facilitating the full lifecycle of functionalities on each award concurrently. With several years of experience in supporting large scale fiscal operations and administrative oversight, she spearheads the efforts to ensure continuous compliance performance for the entire NYS AHEC System.
